Out of all of the leading mitre saw brands, Makita appear to make the most amount of saws. They range in price from around £150 right up to almost £900, so that should give you some idea of the selection of saws that you can buy, at various price points.
You can also tell that based on these prices, you would expect to be getting very high quality products. Every single saw that we looked at in this range had at least a 4 star rating and higher and that bears out the fact, that should you pick a Makita, then you know that you will be owning a high quality product.
Have a look at the picture below and you will get a sense of the look and feel of these very well made saws.
I like this range of saws a lot and they do appear to have made a saw for most purposes. The problem for many will be the prices though, as they are in the same sort of range as Dewalt. For anyone with a lower budget they would be much better off looking at a brand such as Evolution.
However this page is about reviewing the Makita range, so let’s get started on those. There are a lot to choose from so I have narrowed this down to their top 5 products. Those also happen to sit nicely across the range of basic, compounds and sliding saws.
Makita MLS100 Mitre Saw
This is a sturdy and reliable saw with an average price tag of about £150. That is not cheap but it is the cheapest saw in their range. It is not an all singing and dancing saw, but what it does, it does very well. Buyers of this agree and rate it highly at a whopping 4.9 out of 5 stars.
That gives you an idea of the quality of this product and I have used this myself. It really is a great little saw that does the basics to a high degree of accuracy.
Makita LS1040 Mitre Saw
This one has been around for a long time and costs about £50 more than the one above. The buyers of this product swear by it and rely on this one as their work horse. You get good accurate cuts and it is certainly well made and very durable.
I did however struggle to justify spending the extra £50 as the MLS100 does anything that this one can do. I decided therefore not to do a full review on this one as in my opinion, the cheaper one above does an equally good job. I have included it here just for information so as at least you know it exists. Read more here.
Makita Slide Compound Mitre Saw
This one has an average price point of around £280, so that is a lot of money to be spending. The reason for this is that you are moving into the higher end type of product, with both the compound and the sliding functionality.
This is the type of saw that you will find on construction sites all over the country. if you are a professional, then this is one that you should consider. Of course if you are a keen amateur or someone who loves taking on bigger projects around the home, then this is the one for you.
This one is rated as a 5 star saw and I would be in that camp as well. If I had around £275-300 to spend, then out of the hundreds of saws that I have reviewed, this is the one that I would pick.

Makita 305mm Slide Compound Mitre
If money is no object, then get your credit card out and treat yourself to this beauty. I had the pleasure of using this at my friend’s workshop. He is a cabinet maker and someone who makes custom kitchens and furniture.
When I visit him from time to time he does like to show me his latest tools that he has bought. This was one of them and I got to use it for about an hour. What a fantastic product and if you have £600-700 to spend, then I envy you, as this is really the ultimate.
I of course have reviewed this one in more detail here.
Makita 10-inch Slide Compound
This one is also a top notch saw. Again the price will probably send people running as it is around £450-475. I have included it as it is also rated as a 5-star product. I have done a full review on this one however as I have never used it, and don’t know anyone who has.
The 10″ saw though is a popular choice for many so it is worth including it here just so as you know about it and can then make your own mind up.
In summary though, there is little doubt in my mind that Makita make a wide range of mitre saws and they are certainly very high quality and get tremendous reviews by customers who buy them.
